And Erie Canal bolstered flows (year 2) will be contributing to the fishy equation sooner then later in multiple tribs! On the dates not included above anglers can still fish any of the water adjacent to the Archers Club but access will have to be by walking and wading from downstream at the Park Ave Ext Fishing Trail or from upstream at the Waterport dam and anglers cannot be on the Archers Club grounds only in the immediate bankside water. Look for slowly dropping flows all around back to the baseline Canal and normal run of the river contributions. The other area smaller waterways are about moderate with water color of about 2+ ft of visibility. Greater impacts expected SW of here but the south shore of Lake Ontario may get some accumulations. The bend in the rod didnt feel like an average steelhead and we were thinking a decent king salmon was on the line. Flows should be back on the retreat already today with some stain hanging on. Even clear water finds the caster at an advantage over the troller. Looks like a nice fishing window right now in those smaller tribs that normally might be frozen up this time of the season. A good WNW wind thru last night probably moved more fish near shore or into the tribs from Lake Ontario but dont look for those fish to loiter in estuary or rivermouth spots at this point in the season. There would have been a similar few day high/stained fishable water window in the smaller area tribs too. All the trib flows are on the retreat from the last rain. On the west side of Shadigee just past Flat Top, they hit their first King and the further they went, the better it got. Good chance for some icing conditions coming on there. The other area smaller waterways are mostly iced and snowed in. Flows in the other area smaller tribs are low and mostly clear with some icey conditions. Proceeding upstream thru the Oak downstream frog water areas the reports are quieter but I suspect guys are into a decent skein bite. Classic drifting, not so much. Nice to see most all flows now contained in the turbine channel. This amount of fishing pressure in these high ish flows will put next to no pressure on the fish. No trolling gear required, you can get in on this action casting or drifting! And along with the browns theres the chance for Atlantics, cohos or steelhead rounding out nice mixed bag chances. Canal water flow managers are likely throttling back any additional Canal releases into the tribs thanks to all the precipitation. As the cooler weather continues, expect to see a large influx of both steelhead and brown trout moving up stream to feed on the remaining salmon eggs. There seems to be a stalemate between the open Lake temps and the trib water temps thanks to the relatively mild winter. Peach of a day today and it looks like guys are more seriously getting out there this week. Flows in the Oak are about medium and slightly stained with about 2 ft of visibility. Hair jigs and worm harnesses fished off 3-way rigs is the way to go. An honest notch or so less (slightly high) then the previous wide open turbine flows with overflow levels diminished. Most guys upstream- ish report good action while those downstream like in the flat water report tougher action. Fishing pressure is light to moderate with what looks like a few guys here and there probably enjoying holiday time off. The other area smaller tribs look mostly open again with mod to med flows and slightly stained water color. Fish as soon as reasonable conditions allow instead of waiting for supposed better conditions that may or may not materialize. Walleye fishing has been good on the Niagara Bar.
